This blog brings to mind a paper I did in college for a pol sci class (that was my major) in which I argued that the church in America has allowed the government to become a "proxy" for us and what we are supposed to do. What I meant by that was that the Bible doesn't say, "give more money in taxes to your government so they can create social programs that take care of the poor, sick and weak". Jesus told us to do it ourselves. So while the world's solution to social problems is to take all that they can from us and redistribute it to the less fortunate, God's way is that we would sacrifice of ourselves willingly and give and help those around us that need it. We don't even have to go to a "missions" field to do it; we can write a check to the homeless shelter, pick up some extra food to leave in the Compassion cupboard, or volunteer wherever God calls us. Thanks for bringing up this matter of social injustice for us Adam. It challenges me to always look for the physical things I can do for people.

When it came to missions, the thought used to cross my mind, "That's only for people with the gift of evangelism." However, I soon realized the tangible things people did...that truly reflected God's message of love. This shows just how much members of the Body need each other in order to be effective in any kind of ministry.

Our minds were in different trains on the same track :)
