Like grape jelly is made from grape juice, jam has some fruit in it, and I think preserves will have the fruit chunks. I remember your Grandma making them. I'm not at all like Gramdma--I have no desire to spend half a day in a steaming hot kitchen in the summer to slave over a few pints of jam when I can buy a can of it at the store for $2.
