Adam,
After you pointed it out, it's true...I can't say 'peanut butter and jelly sandwich' without saying 'just' in front of it. It just belongs there. I tried to say, "I'm having a spectacular peanut butter and jelly sandwich", but it came out "just a spectacular peanut butter and jelly sandwich."
The roots are too deep. It's sad for that poor wonderful sandwich to get such a raw deal from Americans. It does deserve better from us.

Not for sure, but I think it's the amount of fruit. Like grape jelly is made from grape juice, jam has some fruit in it, and I think preserves will have the fruit chunks. I remember your Grandma making them.
I'm not at all like Gramdma--I have no desire to spend half a day in a steaming hot kitchen in the summer to slave over a few pints of jam when I can buy a can of it at the store for $2. I just can't do it!!

Ooo... I heard about that, I'll have to try it. But I'm really not sure if anything tops a PB&J. I ran out of Strawberry jelly yesterday so (I'm not even kidding), I went to the store and bought grape, strawberry, raspberry, and apricot preserves. It was time to experiment. So far, Strawberry wins my vote.

What's the difference between jelly, jam, and preserves anyhow?

What about the old peanut butter and banana sandwich? Nutty...fruity...full of protein and potassium! The banana helps to unglue your tongue from the roof of your mouth.

With milk, of course.

That's about as crazy as a peanut butter and mayo sandwich.

PBJ is a perfect combination of organic nuttiness and sugary fruitiness!

Dude, I beg to differ. PBJs are unfit for human consumption. Now, a nice BMWJ sandwich on toast... YUM! (Bacon, Miracle Whip, Jam)
