I’m not really sure what brought this on, but I felt compelled to make a top ten list of my favorite musicians, music groups, or songwriters. When I critique music, I usually consider the style or public interest (in many ways, that’s the only thing that matters). But this list transcends all that and is based solely on WHAT I LIKE.
Israel Houghton and New Breed. His music is ultra creative. The rhythm is the tightest I’ve ever heard. The sound is sweet every time. I love this group. My ears became 10x more sensitive to details after I started listening to this group. Great stuff.
John Tesh. What I like most about John’s music is the sound that he creates in the groove.
Eric Whitacre. Eric is a young modern music composer. He walks a FINE LINE between harmony and dissonance. It’s incredible. I cried the first three times I listened to the CD.
Leeland. Leeland Mooring’s voice is incredible. Oh my word.
Elton John.

Bobby McFerrin. Best vocalist in the world.
Ross Parsley and New Life Church.
DC Talk. DC Talk successfully evolved through several eras of popular music with the aim of spreading Christ. Unlike Carman, they did an incredible job changing styles.
Phil Collins. I love Phil’s voice. Beats are pretty tight, too.

This is a very surprising list. I agree on all the ones with which I am familiar (Phil Collins and Elton John REALLY surprised me!). I’ll have to check out the ones I don’t know.
Israel is probably my #1 right now as well (though I would have a hard time rating my top ten). We just have great taste! 🙂

i too am surprised by this list. i don’t understand how we as Christians can choose as a fave someone who’s very life choices are totally against God. even when we in our areas of expertise (ie music)recognize or see the natural talent in another, do we as God fearing Christians continue to revere them or their talents or the products of these talents? just pondering….
If I was dying from a rare disease and the only doctor who knew how to fix it was a Muslim, I would revere his talents and product of his talent (the medicine). He’s not stupid, he is just spiritually wrong. That doesn’t mean I disagree with his beliefs any less.
And if I was a Christian doctor, I wouldn’t ignore this Muslim doctor’s findings either. I would read his books, take his classes, and learn everything I could from him … because once I knew the medical information he knew, I would be able to save a life.
I’m not sure of Henry Ford’s spiritual beliefs, but he’s one of my favorite inventors! I won’t stop using my car if I found out he was atheist. And if someone told me that Thomas Edison was a Hindu or Buddhist, I would still revere my telephone and light bulbs. That doesn’t mean that I agree with atheists, Hindus, or Buddhists, but I’m sure some atheists and Hindus have contributed some really great things that I can use for God’s Kingdom!
Wouldn’t the Muslims beliefs affect his doctoring? If he were treating a person that was an enemy according to Islam, would he treat them with the same care? If he didn’t see a woman as needing proper care would he give her less care? Performing cruel and torturous treatments upon women is something that has happened in Muslim countries and I would think that they are being preformed by doctors.
We could go round and round with our own perspectives on all of this but bottom line, what do our choices reflect to those who are in need of hearing the very pure truth of Jesus?
I am commenting to let you know of the great encounter my friend’s daughter found reading your web page. She figured out numerous issues, not to mention what it’s like to have a wonderful giving mood to have men and women really easily have an understanding of selected hard to do subject areas.
