I Feel Old.

I’m almost 24, but I feel old right now.

Yesterday I was eating lunch with a 16 year old that I mentor. He told me something he was going to do, and I asked him, “Are your parents down with that?”

He said, “What?”

I repeated, “Are your parents down with that?”

“Are they what?”

Again, I repeated “Are your parents down with that?”

Then he laughed at me. “Are they ‘down with it’? Man Adam, I had to think about what that meant. That’s old school. Nobody talks like that anymore.”

Readers – please tell me I’m not the only one who uses the phrase “down with it”! At least I’ve backed off my usage of words like “tubular” and “rad” (yes, I really did say those words quite often).

  1. Wow…I haven’t heard “down with that” in a long time!

But, I won’t throw any stones…I’m sure I have my own phrases that date me. Of course, I can’t think of any right now 😀

  2. If you are cool enough you can bring stuff back and make it current again. Right now I am teaching middle school kids and I said “rad” and “keep it on the DL”. Now they are using it. Now that you posted this I’m going to say “down with that” in class and see if it catches. I’ll let ya know….:)
I have nothing to lose because in two weeks I won’t be there anymore…and they already like me so almost anything I say ends up being cool. ;p

  3. One more thing, maybe it’s old for white people. I was just with some of my African-American friends last week and they are still saying stuff like that. That’s where we got it anyway.

  4. I use that!! All you people aren’t down with the fer-diggety-ness. Cuz this fool’s under 20. So, you all are trippin yo!

  5. I am glad for writing to make you know what a nice encounter my wife’s girl had studying your web site. She mastered several pieces, which include what it’s like to possess an awesome helping nature to let other individuals very easily know precisely some problematic subject matter. You truly exceeded people’s expectations. Thank you for presenting these powerful, trusted, informative and in addition fun tips about this topic to Kate.

  6. Thanks for the tips on credit repair on all of this blog. What I would advice people is to give up the mentality that they can buy now and pay later. As a society we tend to do this for many things. This includes vacations, furniture, and items we want. However, you need to separate your wants from all the needs. While you are working to improve your credit score you have to make some sacrifices. For example you can shop online to save money or you can go to second hand stores instead of expensive department stores for clothing.
